Concern for Women and Children Development Foundation (COWACDI) is a women-led organization established out of a commitment to improving the wellbeing of women and children in Nigeria, with particular focus on vulnerable populations affected by crises.

Since its establishment in 1998, COWACDI has implemented community-based humanitarian and development interventions, particularly in Northeast Nigeria, with a strong focus on Borno, Yobe and Adamawa States (BAY States).

Job Purpose

The Grants, Compliance and Partnership Coordinator is responsible for coordinating grant management, donor compliance, partnership management and organizational compliance processes.

The position ensures that COWACDI programmes are implemented in accordance with approved agreements, donor requirements, organizational policies and applicable regulations.

The role supports effective grant delivery, timely reporting, partner coordination, risk management and compliance across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

1. Grant Management

  • Coordinate the full grant management cycle from award inception through implementation, reporting, amendment and close-out.
  • Maintain an up-to-date grant portfolio, including donor requirements, reporting deadlines, budgets, agreements and compliance obligations.
  • Coordinate with Programme and Finance teams to monitor grant performance, deliverables, expenditure and reporting requirements.
  • Review grant documentation and reports for completeness, consistency and compliance before submission for management approval.
  • Support programme teams in identifying and addressing grant implementation challenges and reporting gaps.

2. Donor Compliance and Reporting

  • Monitor compliance with donor agreements, rules, regulations and reporting requirements.
  • Coordinate the preparation and timely submission of donor reports and other grant-related documentation.
  • Maintain a compliance calendar and follow up with responsible departments on upcoming deadlines and outstanding requirements.
  • Review programme and financial documentation to identify potential compliance risks and recommend corrective actions.
  • Maintain organized and accessible grant files and supporting documentation for audits, donor reviews and internal compliance checks.

3. Partnership Management

  • Coordinate engagement with implementing partners, local organizations and other strategic partners in line with approved partnership arrangements.
  • Support partner due diligence, capacity assessments, agreements and compliance documentation.
  • Monitor partner performance, deliverables, reporting and compliance with agreed contractual and donor requirements.
  • Coordinate partner review meetings and follow up on agreed actions, identified gaps and capacity-strengthening needs.
  • Maintain an updated partnership database and records of partner agreements, assessments, reports and correspondence.

4. Compliance, Risk and Internal Controls

  • Support the organization in monitoring compliance with COWACDI policies, donor requirements, applicable laws and contractual obligations.
  • Identify grant, partnership, operational and compliance risks.
  • Support the development and monitoring of risk-mitigation measures.
  • Coordinate follow-up on audit findings, compliance reviews, donor recommendations and agreed corrective actions.
  • Promote staff awareness and adherence to grant, compliance, documentation and reporting requirements.
  • Escalate significant compliance concerns or risks to management in a timely manner.

5. Coordination, Capacity Building and Reporting

  • Provide technical guidance to Programme, Finance, Operations and Partnership teams on grant and compliance requirements.
  • Facilitate relevant grant management, compliance and partner capacity-building sessions for staff and partners.
  • Coordinate regular grant and partnership review meetings.
  • Document key decisions and action points from review meetings.
  • Prepare periodic management reports covering:
    • Grant performance
    • Compliance status
    • Partnership activities
    • Risks
    • Outstanding actions
  • Perform other grant, compliance and partnership-related duties assigned by management.

Qualifications & Experience

  • MSc or Bachelorโ€™s Degree in:
    • Development Studies
    • International Relations
    • Business Administration
    • Finance
    • Accounting
    • Management
    • Social Sciences
    • Or another related field.
  • Professional qualification or postgraduate training in grants management, project management, compliance, development studies or a related discipline is an advantage.
  • Minimum of 3โ€“5 years of relevant experience in grants management, donor compliance, partnership management or a related role within the humanitarian/development sector.
  • Experience working with institutional donors and/or international NGOs is desirable.

  • Ability to work effectively in a humanitarian/development environment and under pressure.
  • Strong communication and coordination skills.

Language Requirement

  • Fluency in oral and written English or Hausa is required.
