Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) is an International, Private, Non-Governmental, Non-Profit Humanitarian Organization. Our organisation offers assistance to populations in distress, to victims of natural or man-made disasters, to victims of armed conflict, without discrimination irrespective of race, religion, creed or political affiliation. We have been working in Nigeria facilitated by a Memorandum of Understanding between Medecins Sans Frontieres and the Federal Government of Nigeria.
The French Section are at present co-operating with the Federal Ministry of Health, and State and Local government departments of health on various health projects. Our current focus is the VVF/Emergency Obstetrics Project in Jigawa State, the Provision of Primary Health Care in Borno State, and the Nutrition Project in Katsina State with coordination office in Abuja, Nigeria.

Job Title: Cook / Cleaner – Daily Worker Pool
Location: Abuja (FCT)
Context
- Mรฉdecins Sans Frontiรจres (MSF) France in Nigeria, limited by guarantee is a private, not-for-profit international humanitarian organization dedicated to providing medical assistance to populations in distress, without discrimination and regardless of race, religion, creed, or political affiliation.
- Currently, MSF France is co-operating with the Federal Ministry of Health, State and Local government departments of health on various projects. Our current focus is a VVF and maternity response in Jahun, Jigawa state, and Malaria and Nutrition response in Katsina state with its coordination office in Abuja, Nigeria.
Main Purpose
- Prepare meals for patients and MSF staff, according to hygiene standards and security rules, to ensure their nutritional needs and execute according to hygienic standards, housekeeping, cleaning and tiding up activities in order to ensure public and staff private areas are in good condition.
Job Description
Cooking:
- Carry out the preparation of meals for staff
- Always follow all hygiene standards and security rules.
- Control stock of food to ask for anything needed on time and prepare shopping list and make purchases if required.
- Ensure meals to be served on time.
- If applicable set table before every meal and clean it up after each meal.
- Ensure cleanliness of all facilities, utensils and equipment.
- As domestic cook, ensure the provision of drinkable water during the day and when she / he leaves cleaning, filling the filter and empty bottles, changing batteries if necessary.
- Look after all equipment provided.
- Keep an inventory of MSF kitchen utensils and equipment, i.e. plates, glasses, cutlery, cookware, etc., and ensure its integrity.
- Report all important information (lost, robbery, damages, deterioration, incident, etc.) to supervisor.
Cleaning:
- Clean bedrooms, bathrooms, toilets and other rooms by brushing and moping.
- Cleaning and tidy-up tables; coffee table, dining table, kitchen table and cooker, etc.
- To open windows in the morning and close them in the evening.
- To prepare meals for lunch and dinner as instructed.
- Waste disposal.
- To wash curtain every 3 months.
- To wash duvet, blanket monthly if not using duvet cover, and every 3 months if using duvet cover.
- To wash sofa, pillowcase.
- Keep premises properly locked (doors, windows) when leaving the house.
Others:
- To ensure appliances are off and secure before leaving the house, washing machine, dryer, fan, stove, etc.
- To report if there is a maintenance issue that needs to be done.
- To report if essential product for cleaning is finished.
- To ensure materials are properly clean and stored for the next user.
Requirements
- Education:ย Literacy essential, course on cooking desirable
- Experience:ย Previous experience desirable.
