We are recruiting to fill the position below:
Job Title: Volunteer Proofreader
Location: Remote
Employment Type: Volunteer
Hours: Flexible, approximately 10 hours per week
Reporting to: Social Media Team Leader
The Role
- As our Volunteer Proofreader, you will review social media scripts, captions and other digital content before publication.
- You will work closely with our Scriptwriter, Social Media Content Strategist and Video & Publishing Officer, under the direction of the Social Media Team Leader, to maintain a consistent and professional standard across IIR’s communications.
Key Responsibilities
- Proofread scripts, captions and social media copy before publication.
- Review content for spelling, grammar, punctuation and clarity.
- Improve sentence structure and readability where necessary without changing the intended meaning.
- Check content for consistency in tone, terminology and organisational voice.
- Identify errors, inconsistencies or unclear wording and suggest appropriate corrections.
- Review final copy before it is passed to the Video & Publishing Officer for publication.
- Work collaboratively with the Scriptwriter and Content Strategist to improve content quality.
- Help maintain consistent editorial standards across IIR’s social media communications.
Who We’re Looking For
We welcome applications from graduates and early-career professionals with a minimum of one year’s relevant experience.
You should have:
- Excellent written English, grammar and spelling.
- Exceptional attention to detail.
- Strong proofreading and editing skills.
- An ability to improve clarity while preserving the writer’s intended meaning and voice.
- Good organisational and time-management skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively and meet agreed deadlines.
- An interest in social justice, access to justice or nonprofit communications.
