Job Description

The Nigerian Red Cross Society (NRCS) is seeking a Weapon Contamination (WeC) Field & Volunteer Coordinator to support the implementation of Risk Awareness and Safer Behaviour (RASB) activities at community and field level.

The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting NRCS volunteers, monitoring field activities, facilitating community awareness initiatives and ensuring that field information is accurately documented and reported.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the implementation of RASB activities within assigned communities.
  • Assist in identifying and selecting NRCS volunteers for WeC/RASB activities.
  • Provide guidance, supervision and support to volunteers at branch and field levels.
  • Monitor volunteer activities and ensure that assigned tasks are properly carried out.
  • Collect and review reports submitted by volunteers.
  • Compile monthly statistics and provide information for programme reporting.
  • Support community awareness sessions using approved RASB educational materials.
  • Assist volunteers in using appropriate local communication methods and interactive approaches.
  • Ensure programme materials and educational tools are properly handled and stored.
  • Support ICRC WeC teams during field activities where required.
  • Identify areas where additional RASB activities may be needed.
  • Participate in relevant training sessions organised under the WeC/RASB programme.
  • Assist with documentation relating to volunteer payments, incentives and activity support.
  • Report challenges encountered during field activities to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Maintain effective communication between volunteers, branch management and programme teams.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the Branch Secretary or authorised supervisor.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree or HND in a relevant field.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ relevant experience.
  • Experience working with volunteers and community-based programmes.
  • Previous experience in humanitarian or emergency response is an advantage.
  • Knowledge or experience in weapon contamination/mine action is desirable.
  • Previous Red Cross/Red Crescent experience is an added advantage.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good reporting and documentation skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to work with people from different backgrounds.
  • Willingness to undertake field travel and work in challenging environments.
